Results from West Region regional leagues for 17th September:
A couple of games off this weekend, with McLaren now having missed 3 from 4 games.
After 4 weeks of games, the leagues are starting to take a bit of shape. In West 1, both East Kilbride and Newton Stewart are unbeaten, whilst at the foot of the table Irvine have yet to register a win, but they have gained four bonus points.
Similarly in West 2, we have two unbeaten teams Cambuslang and Millbrae, whilst there are two teams without a win, Waysiders and McLaren - having missed three matches, you'd assume McLaren will be due a points deduction for each of these, so McLaren already look like early season favourites for relegation.
Only Strathendrick are unbeaten in West 3 - and stunningly, they've yet to concede a point, whilst Birkmyre are yet to record a win, but have five bonus points to their name from 4 games.
We have two teams in West 4 still unbeaten, Lanark and Glasgow Medics, but it's much tighter at the foot of the table where Mull, Hyndland, Clydesdale and Glasgow East have yet to register wins - three of these four have points deductions looming.
The number of unfulfilled fixtures is quite worrying, especially this early in the season. The reserve leagues are in greater difficulty. However, this is not solely a West Region issue, it's across the board of Scottish rugby. Clubs like Hawick and Gala look to be struggling to put out reserve teams in National Reserve 1, whilst Langholm failed to field a team in East 2 (despite an passionate public appeal from their Club Chairman).
The rhetoric coming out of Murrayfield is that things a going great, however the results from 4 weeks of competition suggest something else is happening.
