West 3 Update - 25th February 2019

West 3 has been tight all season, and this weekend saw a change at the top as Uni Medics won against 36 -13 away at Mull, whilst WD had a rest weekend.  And to add some additional spice, the two leaders face each other this weekend coming.

West 2 Update - 25th February 2019

Congratulations to Lenzie for winning the West 2 Championship on Saturday with the required bonus point win at Strathaven. They made hard work of it mind you, going down a try and conversion before adding a couple of penalties of their own.  It just felt like the pressure of Lenzie needing the bonus point was getting to both teams, as things got a bit scrappy; so much so we managed to have three yellow cards in the first half.  Lenzie did manage three penalties, a try and a penalty try in the first 40 minutes, giving them 23-7 lead.

West 1 Update - 24 February 2019

The West Championship title race got a little closer at the weekend, and possibly saw one of the challengers drop out of contention.

West 3 Update - 21st February 2019

With both West 3 title contenders away from home last Saturday, we kept an eye open for a chance of an upset, but it wasn't to be, as both picked up bonus point wins.  WD had a comfortable 72-19 win away at Shawlands, whilst Medics 26-3 at Birkmyre.

West 2 Update - 21st February 2019

Lenzie continued their unbeaten run on Saturday with a rather impressive 99 nil victory over Helensburgh.  Second placed Oban Lorne also had a bonus point win, 36 - 11 at Bishopton, but at 11 points behind, and only three games remaining for Oban, a bonus point win for Lenzie away at Strathaven on Saturday will clinch them the West 2 Championship title.

HIAs are not permitted in Scottish domestic Club competitions

Following the weekends game, we've been pondering what to post about HIAs.

For the second time this season, we've been to a West Regional game where a player has gone off with a head injury, and subsequently returned to the field of play.

On both occasions, a member of the opposition sideline queried the player returning to the field, and each time the referee replied the player had passed an HIA.

We want to point out that in domestic rugby games in Scotland, HIAs are not a thing, and that no player should be allowed to return to the field of play if they are suspected of having a concussion.

Our Predictions for 16th February 2019

We're getting to the closing stages of the West Regional league campaign, with some of the Clubs down to a couple of games remaining.

There's four Clubs in contention for the sole promotion spot in West 1, and with the West Championship Committee confirming this week there's still no agreement on the rest of the promotion and relegation malarky, it means there loads still to play for across the leagues.
