Week 6 - 1st October Fixtures

In West 1, the top two are both away this weekend, with East Kilbride visiting 6th place Allan Glens and Carrick at fifth place Kilmarnock. Newton Stewart in third are still unbeaten after last weeks trip to Oban was put off early doors - they look to have the more comfortable game with a home tie against Helensburgh - whose only win so far this year has been against league strugglers Irvine.

Week 5 Results - 24th September 2016

Three postponements this weekend, but at least they all look to be weather related.

East Kilbride still unbeaten at top of West 1 - Cambuslang have a similar record in West 2 and Lanark in West 4.  Strathendrick still unbeaten in West 3, but as they didn't play this weekend, they slip to third.

Week 5 Fixtures - 24th September 2016

Week 5 of the West Regional fixtures this weekend.

The top 3 in West 1 all play teams currently in the bottom half of the table.  Both East Kilbride and Newton Stewart are looking to keep their unbeaten records, but Newton Stewart look to have the more difficult task as their game is away at Oban - which must be close on a 5 hour bus journey for them.

Top 2 are also unbeaten in West 3, where Cambuslang play hosts to Cumbernauld and Millbrae travel to Cumnock.  With McLaren having pulled out of the league it means Clydebank, who are currently in third place, have the weekend off, giving Stewartry the chance to overtake them.

In West 3, only Strathendrick are unbeaten, and they travel to bottom of the table Birkmyre, who are yet to register a win. Endrick have scored 206 points and conceded nil in 4 games, so this might be a big scoreline.  It's close for 2nd spot, with Uddingston one point ahead of Strathaven and Loch Lomond. Strathaven probably have the toughest tie of the three, with a trip away to Arran.

In West 4, 2nd plays 3rd, so with the Glasgow Unis boys not playing this weekend, both Lanark & Shawlands will be looking for a chance to go top of the table.

West League Update

A couple of updates have been put through in the leagues this morning, and it looks like McLaren have withdrawn from West 2, whilst Glasgow East (following their announcement on Twitter yesterday) have withdrawn from West 4.

Week 4 Results - 17th September

Results from West Region regional leagues for 17th September:

A couple of games off this weekend, with McLaren now having missed 3 from 4 games.

After 4 weeks of games, the leagues are starting to take a bit of shape.  In West 1, both East Kilbride and Newton Stewart are unbeaten, whilst at the foot of the table Irvine have yet to register a win, but they have gained four bonus points.

Similarly in West 2, we have two unbeaten teams Cambuslang and Millbrae, whilst there are two teams without a win, Waysiders and McLaren - having missed three matches, you'd assume McLaren will be due a points deduction for each of these, so McLaren already look like early season favourites for relegation.

Only Strathendrick are unbeaten in West 3 - and stunningly, they've yet to concede a point, whilst Birkmyre are yet to record a win, but have five bonus points to their name from 4 games.

We have two teams in West 4 still unbeaten, Lanark and Glasgow Medics, but it's much tighter at the foot of the table where Mull, Hyndland, Clydesdale and Glasgow East have yet to register wins - three of these four have points deductions looming.

The number of unfulfilled fixtures is quite worrying, especially this early in the season.  The reserve leagues are in greater difficulty.  However, this is not solely a West Region issue, it's across the board of Scottish rugby.  Clubs like Hawick and Gala look to be struggling to put out reserve teams in National Reserve 1, whilst Langholm failed to field a team in East 2 (despite an passionate public appeal from their Club Chairman).

The rhetoric coming out of Murrayfield is that things a going great, however the results from 4 weeks of competition suggest something else is happening.

Week 3 Results

All fixtures played in West Regional Leagues over the weekend, Reserve leagues not as successful.

T4 West youth leagues have also been redone again as more teams drop out.

For some reason there looks to be more disruption to fixtures (both youth and senior) than is usual at this time of year.

As we approach the weekend, so the mind turns to game time.  This weekend bring us Week 3 of the West fixtures, where we have an early appetiser with Irvine travelling to Oban tonight for a 7pm kick-off.

West Region Results - 3rd September

1st XV results from the weekend:
Just the two games off this weekend, an improvement, but still disappointing.  However a quick squint at the 2nd xv leagues and things aren't so strong there - looks like 8 from 15 games not played in the West Reserve leagues.
