West Results (Male) - 28 April 2018

Best wishes to all the Clubs competing at Murrayfield this weekend, but don't forget we've got some big games in the West leagues as well.

It's the nitty gritty stage of the season and there's games affecting the top end of West 1 as well as the relegation battle along with contests across the promotion and relegation battles in West 2.

West League Update - West 3 - 23 April 2018

Wigtownshire wrapped up their league campaign on Saturday with an impressive 73-7 victory over Cowal, and can now prepare for their Murrayfield trip on Saturday without the worry about league points.

West League Update - West 2 - 23 April 2018

With each week that passes, we're more amazed at just how competitive West 2 remains, and this last set of results just makes it even more wonderful.  A set of results which leaves us with four Clubs at the top separated by 1 point.  Yes, some have played more than others, but with four Saturdays of the season remaining, it’s just fantastic that we have a Championship and promotion battle with so much competitive interest.

Despite losing to Millbrae at the weekend, Lenzie are now top, thanks to a lose bonus point and a better points difference over Cumnock who won at home against Cumbernauld.  Strathendrick move up to third with a victory over Uddingston, whilst Paisley are down to fourth following a weekend off.

West League Update - West 1 - 23 April 2018

Now with only three games remaining, Saturdays results look to have been decisive in the chase for the West 1 Championship title.

Glens and Garnock both had big bonus point wins, but they needed East Kilbride to do them a favour in their game against Carrick.

For thirty minutes, EK looked to be the stronger team with plenty of possession and territory.  In addition, they had the upper hand in the scrums as well as winning a fair amount of Carrick line-out ball, so it looked suspiciously like East Kilbride could get the result that would open up the title race.  However, the Carrick defence was solid, and gave the home side hardly a sniff of the try line, so despite all their effort, East Kilbrides only reward was a three point penalty.

Under 18 Bowl & Shield Finals - 21 April 2018

It's finals day for the West Region Under 18 Bowl and Shield competitions on Saturday 21st April.

The Shield final is being contested by Whitecraigs and Stewartry. In their semi-finals, Whitecraigs won against Dalziel, whilst Stewartry won against Allan Glens.

The Bowl final is being contested by Oban Lorne and Dumfries. Oban won their semi-final on their travels against Cartha, whilst Dumfries had a closely contested win at Greenock.

The Cup final is taking place on 28th April between Ayr and Biggar.

West Results (Male) - 21 April 2018

The West Regional leagues are entering the final leg of the season with only a few game remaining.

Wigtownshire have clinched the West 3 Championship, but the West 1 and 2 titles are still up for grabs with four Clubs in each league battling it out to see who will be crowned Champions.

In addition to the title races, we still have the second promotion spots to be decided in West 2 and 3, and on top of all the goings-on at the top of the table, we have plenty of Clubs fighting out their own relegation battles in West 1 and 2.

West League Update - West 3 - 16 April 2018

Congratulations to Wigtownshire who confirmed the West 3 Championship title at the weekend with a 42-14 victory over Glasgow Uni Medics.  This caps off an impressive season for Shire who have lost only one game between league and Bowl competitions, and have accumulated 14 try bonus points from 15 games.

West League Update - West 2 - 16 April 2018

Prior to Saturdays kick-off, there were 8 points separating the four Clubs at the top of West 2.  By close of business, we still have four teams competing for the title and promotion places, but the difference is down to five points.

Strathendrick won game of the day against Cumnock 21-11, in a match which the home team dominated in the first 40 minutes, only for that dominance to switch in the second half, and Cumnock getting themselves back in the game.  With 10 minutes to go, there were only three points in it, but a missed tackle in midfield gave Endrick a try under the posts.

West League Update - West 1 - 16 April 2018

Bonus point wins all round for the West 1 title contender at the weekend, so the only real change at the top is they each have one game less with which to catch Carrick in their chase for the title and the sole promotion spot.

Each Club has four games left (Garnock have five), and with Carrick seven points ahead of Allan Glens, 13 ahead of Garnock and 18 ahead of East Kilbride, it's Carrick who are current favourites.  In addition, Carrick also have a substantially stronger points difference over their challengers.

So whilst there’s not that many games left, and Carrick look to be clear, it certainly isn't not over yet.

A number of crucial fixtures across West Region in each of the three senior male leagues.

Wigtownshire can confirm the West 3 Championship with a win or a draw, but game of the day is Strathendrick v Cumnock in West 2.

West League Update - West 3 - 09 April 2018

There were a number of choices, but for us the game of last weekend took place at Holmpark where the two main title challengers in the West 3 championship battle faced each other, with 2nd placed Bishopton welcoming league leaders Wigtownshire.

Both teams have scored plenty of points though the season and possess defences which have been pretty mean (Shire having only conceded 74 points in 13 league games).  So as with most of the season, we donned our hat, gloves and waterproofs and made the trip to Bishopton, and sure enough, it was a typical dull and dreich day for league rugby.

West League Update - West 2 - 09 April 2018

The most competitive league in world rugby shows no signs of dying down any time soon.  We’ve got six Saturdays of the season left, and the title and relegation battles in West 2 just got a little more intense - who thought that was even feasible.

The massive result of the weekend saw Strathendrick win 23-17 in what sounds like an intense battle against Paisley - it was four league points for Endrick and one for Paisley.  Cumnock moved up to second place with a bonus point win at home against Loch Lomond, which leaves them three points behind Paisley, but they have two games in hand.

West League Update - West 1 - 09 April 2018

This season seems as though it will never end.  The weekends culprit is again the weather where we had the 4th v 3rd place game between East Kilbride v Garnock off due to a waterlogged pitch.  Thankfully it was the only West 1 game that was off, and both Clubs do look to have the 5th May available to reschedule the game, so it shouldn’t have a knock-on effect on others.

In the other games, both Carrick and Glens had bonus point wins (ref cam footage Irvine v Allan Glens), so Carrick remain 7 points ahead of Glens, with Garnock 13 behind top spot, but with the game in hand.  With five games remaining, East Kilbride are 18 points behind Carrick, so they can still catch them, but Carrick would need to lose four of their last five - possible, but not likely.

West League Update - West 3 - 02 April 2018

With Wigtownshire playing their National Bowl semi-final match on Saturday, this was a chance for Bishopton and Glasgow Uni Medics to close the gap on the league leaders.  Bishopton duly delivered, but the Medics failed even to send a team to Mull.

West League Update - West 2 - 02 April 2018

There’s four Clubs still duking it out at the top of West 2, all with wins at the weekend, but Lenzie gain a small advantage by being the only one to claim a four try bonus point.

Monday 2 April 2018

West League Update - West 1 - 02 April 2018

With Carrick playing their semi-final National Shield match, it was an opportunity for their nearest challengers for the West 1 championship and sole promotion spot to the National league to close the gap on the leaders.

Both Glens and Garnock took full advantage with bonus points wins: Glens winning 45-7 at home against Kilmarnock, and Garnock on the road at Annan 62 nil.
