West 2 - Mid-season Report

As with West 3, West 2 is turning into a tasty wee contest at the top, though things are a little less exciting down the foot.

McLaren pulled out of the league early doors, so it leaves a league of 9, which potentially means no relegation, but that's not certain as the relegation battle in National 3 can have an impact.

Current leaders, Cambuslang set a cracking pace taking top spot having won 6 from 6, but more recently they've lost a couple of games and scraped a victory against Paisley by two points.  Stewartry are in 2nd place, 6 points behind, but with a game in hand.  Stewartry have a superior points difference as a result of more points scored and significantly fewer points conceded.  It's tight between the two, so come the end of the season, that points difference might be important.

This weekend sees Cambuslang hosting Waysiders, whilst Stewartry travel to Cumnock.  You'd expect both to win, but WD showed earlier in the season they could run Cambuslang close, whilst Cumnock have won 5 from 9 and have a points difference of only -3 - so no mugs and should not be under-estimated.

With Paisley being another five points behind Stewartry, they're probably out of the promotion battle in third place, but having beaten Stewartry and narrowly missing out on victory at Cambuslang, they'll not be taking their foot off the gas in the hope that those above them slip up.  They must be ruing their start to the season when they lost their first two games. They're away at Lenzie this weekend, so again will be looking for maximum points from this game.

The middle of the table is quite congested where we have only 9 points between 3rd and 6th (Cumnock in 6th have a game in hand), whilst WD in 7th are only another four points behind.  They must all be thinking if they can have a decent 2nd half, they'll be hopeful for things for next season.  The one to watch in this bunch is Millbrae who appear to be a bit up and down - but with Ayr looking to get them to West 1, we can expect a stronger more consistent set of results from them next season.

At the foot of the table Cumbernauld and Lenzie are now a bit detached from the rest - Cumbernauld having won one game and Lenzie two.  Lenzies six bonus points to Cumbernaulds one, means the points gap is actually 9.  Both are struggling to score points, whilst their defences are proving quite leaky.

Apart from the bottom two, this is a league where it looks like any of the teams are capable of getting a result against the others, which should keep things interesting for a while yet.  Cumbernauld and Lenzie will both be keeping an eye on National 3 to see if they need to worry about relegation.
