West 1 Update - 10th March 2020

A quick look at the West 1 league table after the weekends results suggests we now have a two horse race, but don't jump to that conclusion, Garnock & EK are still very much in the Championship battle.

At the weekend, we had a couple of top half battles, with league leaders Stewartry coming away with a 12 - 10 win at Lenzie, whilst second place Kilmarnock lost heavily at Allan Glens (48 - 5), which effectively ends Kilmarnocks title race.

With two games left (Lenzie away and Garnock away), Kilmarnock find themselves 7 points behind Stewartry, so whilst it's still mathematically possible for them to win the league, it will need some set of results going in their favour.

The win for Glens moves them up to second, three points behind Stewartry, and three games in hand.

That initial look at the league table suggests it's between Stewartry & Glens, but on closer inspection we see that both Garnock and East Kilbride have eight games remaining, so six games in hand on Stewartry - if Garnock win their games in hand, they're on at least 59 points (the same as Stewartry).

East Kilbrides 55 nil win against Annan  means they're a point behind Garnock, so the two of them are still in this battle.

So who are favourites for the title.  Well it's a tough one.

Stewartrys remaining games are Cambuslang (this weekend) and then it's EK on 11th April - both away matches.

Glens have Strathendrick - home and away over the next couple of weeks, but their remaining games are Irvine (away), East Kilbride (away) and Garnock (away).

Garnocks games kick-off with East Kilbride this weekend followed by Lenzie and Kilmarnock.  Then they have Cambusland and Endrick twice before finishing up with Glens and EK.

EK have this weekends game against Garnock, then Annan and Endrick, before facing Stewartry and Glens.  The same week that Garnock & Glens are playing each other, EK play Cambuslang before finishing
up with Garnock and Lenzie.

I'm sure we all have our favourites, but would anyone be confident enough to put a big stake on their Club winning the title as this could potentially be really tight.  Whoever wins the title, they've still got plenty of work to do.

At the foot of the table, Cambuslang are in the relegation spot, with the weekends big loss at Irvine leaving them five points behind Endrick, despite having played two games more.

Cambus have four games remaining, which includes Stewartry this weekend, but perhaps more importantly, Strathendrick on 28th March, before their final two games against Garnock and East Kilbride.

A bonus point win against Endrick and they're on the same points, however Endrick have a vastly superior points difference, so Cambus will need at least one more bonus point from their remaining games.

Endricks remaining games aren't much better looking - Glens (twice), EK and Garnock (twice) - so it does all look to come down to that game on the 28th.
