West 4 Results - 4th December 2016

Unfortunately, the turmoil of West 4 got a bit deeper at the weekend.

With Glasgow Alphas and Glasgow East having withdrawn earlier in the season, and the almost weekly struggle for Clydesdale to field a team, things took another turn when league leaders, Glasgow University Medics, failed to make the trip to Mull.

In past seasons this would have been easily dealt with a via a points deduction, however this years Committee have made a rod for their own backs by setting the precedent of not deducting points for unfulfilled fixtures (Helensburgh and Clydesdale).  A 3 point deduction would mean the Uni boys would only be two points ahead of Mull and three ahead of Lanark.

Lanark kept up their promotion challenge with a 22-12 victory at Shawlands, though there was no bonus point for them. A bonus point would have had them on the same points as Mull, but with two games in hand.

Unfortunately for Mull, they might be running out of fixtures.  It’s not yet Christmas, and they only have five games of their competitive season left.  Two of these games are scheduled in the next couple of weeks, which will leave them three fixtures to play in January, February and March (and one of these requires Clydesdale to travel to Mull).

The only other game that took place in West 4 (yes, the Clydesdale game was off) saw Cowal win 39-15 at home to Hyndland.
