Scotland didn't get off to the greatest of starts as they kicked off the campaign with a loss in a close fought match against Argentina, going down 21-19. Argentina though did go on to top the group with further wins against both New Zealand and Urugauy.
Scotlands 40-14 win against Uruguay meant their final group game against New Zealand would decide which of the two nations would proceed through to the main Cup competition. Interestingly, a draw and Scotland would proceed due to the better points difference.
The New Zealand game didn't start brilliantly with Scotland conceding a try early doors, but they soon got back on top with a couple of stunning tries to take a 10-7 lead - this ones a cracker - outrageous team try .
Unfortunately, the next four tries all went to New Zealand, so despite a last minute try from Godsmark the comeback was beyond them. A final score of 26-17 meant New Zealand proceed in the Cup and Scotland would face Russia in the Challenge Trophy Quarter Final.
In the Russia game, tries for Graham, Nayacavou, Godsmark and Fergusson gave a comfortable 24-12 win to set up a semi-final match against Canada - this will kick-off on Sunday evening at 8:06. Winners of this game will play the winners of the France v Wales game.
Heartbreak for Scotland, as Canada score the winning points with the last kick of the game - a penalty goal from about 7 metres outside the 22 is almost sclaffed, but manages to go over the bar - Canada win 15-12. Scotland tries from Lowe and MacLennan.
So that's it for Scotland for another round, but onto Vancouver next weekend.
Canada met France in the Challenge Trophy final, but went down 26-19. USA won the big prize, defeating Argentina 26-19.
After five rounds, the tournament is led by South Africa on 92 points, with New Zealand in second on 83 points. Scotland remain in 12th on 28 points - 7 points behind Canada, and 6 ahead of Wales.
The next round sees a quick trip north to Vancouver next weekend, where Scotland find themselves in Group D with matches against South Africa, New Zealand and Russia.
