West League Update (West 3) - 15th October 2018

With leaders WD having the weekend off (PSG unable to raise team), it was a chance for Cowal to close the gap at the top.

The Predictor odds had it down as a comfortable win for Cowal, but Birkmyre disagreed and duly put a big hole in the Cowal title challenge by coming away with a 20 nil victory.

Cowal remain in second with Lochaber moving to third following their win 20-17 win against Shawlands.  Lochaber are now only a point behind Cowal, but have played a game more.

With no game, Uni Medics drop a place to fourth.  Mull closed the gap on the students to a point following their home win against Hyndland (33-10) .

WD are six points clear at the top, so their game this weekend at Cowal is crucial - if WD win, then they become firm favourites for the title and the real competition will be about who can take second place (there’s currently only five points between second and sixth).  A win for Cowal and it’s all back in melting pot.

Predictor:
WDs visit to Cowal is West 3 game of the day.  WD are unbeaten in the league and must be favourites for this game following Cowals first league defeat at the weekend.  We’ll go with the away win due to last weekends result, but we’ve seen a couple of their games this season and Cowal have been pretty decent so no surprise if they take the win.

Sorry Moffat, but we see only one winner your game against the Uni Medics this weekend.  Uni Medics have won three from four only losing out to Cowal, and they've been scoring plenty of points in the process.  It's been a difficult start to the season for Moffat who are still looking for a league win. It could be a tough day for the visitors.

Mull visit PSG this weekend who have been struggling for numbers in the past few weeks.  They’ve had a couple of league wins this season, so they’re no mugs when they get a team on the pitch.  Mull have also been struggling with numbers for away games, so this one’s a bit up in the air.  Will go with Mull based on what we saw of them in the WD game a few weeks ago.

Shawlands v Birkmyre looks like it should be a good contest.  Shawlands went up to Fort William last week and only lost by three points, whilst Birkmyre surprised us with a win against Cowal.  There’s only three points between them in the league, but it’s Birkmyre who look to have the tighter defence.  When it’s this close, we’d normally go with home advantage, so home win it is.
