West Region Results - 5th November 2016

With the Autumn Tests upon us, many of us have a break from league business, so todays update is just a quickie and we'll look at each of the West Regional Leagues in a bit more detail over the next week or so.

In West 1, East Kilbride and Newton Stewart maintained their unbeaten records, but Carrick fell behind the pacesetters with defeat at Glens.

After a bit of settling in, the new investment at Irvine might be starting to pay dividends with a big win against Kilmarnock, which was enough to move them above Oban, whilst Helensburgh problems continue following a big defeat (60-7) at Garnock.

The big news in West 2 is that Clydebank have blown the title battle wide open with a 43-29 victory against Cambuslang - Stewartry are 6 points behind, but have a game in hand.  At the foot of the table, WD, Lenzie and Cumbernauld all lost, but a lose bonus for Lenzie means they open the gap a little more to Cumbernauld.

As in West 2, the leagues leaders and, until now, uneaten team lost at the weekend, with Strathendrick losing 5-0 to Loch Lomond.  This sees Uddingston move onto the same points following their 71-11 win against Arran.  Between them, Strathendrick and Loch Lomond had scored over 600 points this season, so a total of 5 must be a bit of a shock for the supporters.  Endrick still have the upper hand as they have played a game less, but what looked being a comfortable campaign now just got a bit more interesting.

At the foot of the table there are only five points separating four teams, with Wigtownshire and Police Scotland both gaining bonus points to keep things interesting.

In West 4, the only game that took place was between Clydesdale and Mull, with Mull coming out on top @ 55-27.  This was only Clydesales third game of the season, and whilst they haven't won any, they have gained three try bonus points.

Many of us don't have game this weekend, but it is Cup weekend for some, and there's a few re-arranged league games for others, so if you get the chance, let's get out and support a local team before we settle down to cheer on the guys @ Murrayfield.
