It’s a two horse race at the top of West 2, with both Cambuslang and Stewartry scoring plenty of points. At the weekend, Cambuslang beat Cumbernauld 47-7 and Stewartry beat Paisley 42-26.
Cambuslang are currently 7 points clear at the top of the table, but Stewartry do have a game in hand.
Cambuslang have only three games remaining, and this includes a home fixture against Stewartry. This game on the 21st January is as good as the title decider, but it’s going to be tight and victories in the other games are a must - bonus points could still come into play (and perhaps even points difference).
In addition to the title head to head contest, Cambuslang have a home game against Lenzie and an away game against Millbrae, whilst Stewartrys remaining games include Clydebank (a), Waysiders (h) and Cumbernauld (h).
The other results from the weekend were a 17 each draw between Millbrae & Cumnock, and a 31-12 victory for Lenzie over Waysiders, which means we have only ten points separating 3rd from 8th.
At the foot of the table, Cumbernauld are 17 points behind WD in 8th place. With McLaren having withdrawn from the league, this should take care of the automatic relegation spot, so Cumbernauld potentially need to wait 16 weeks for the relegation contest in National 3 to be resolved, to see if it’s one or two down to West 3.
