West Region Shield Update - 9th February 2017

We’re closing in on the semi final line-up for the West Region Shield competition.  Two of the four spots are already known, with Oban having beaten Stewartry 55-0 and Newton Stewart having won 16-10 away at Annan on 28th January.

The 28th also saw a couple of games left over from Round 1.  In these, Irvine had a comfortable 46 points to 7 win at Lenzie, whilst East Kilbride won 39-7 on their travels to Cumnock.

This weekend sees two quarter-final games.  In the first we have Alan Glens traveling to Irvine which sees the teams in 6th & 7th place in West 1 take on one another.  They met in the league only a couple of weeks ago, and it was Irvine who won 24-23.  In their previous league encounter in October, Irvine won 25-24.  If past results are any indication, this will be another close contest, with a number of tries scored - should be a good one for the spectators who brave the cold.

We have another cracker in the other Quarter Final game, with current West 1 league leaders, Carrick, visiting long time leaders, but now third placed team, East Kilbride.  In their league matches this season, it’s one a piece, so again, we’re expecting a tight contest.

The semi-finals are scheduled for 18th February.  The winners of the game at East Kilbride will travel to Oban, whilst the winners of the game at Irvine host Newton Stewart.
