The weekends action saw West 2s title contenders in opposition, with Lenzie cementing their lead at the top with a dominant 64-5 win away at Bishopton, which leaves only Uddy and Oban who have been able to match the Lenzie power.
Lenzie stretched their lead at the top, as while Uddy came away with a 15-7 win over Oban, there was no bonus point for either of the chasing pack. The Predictor odds had Oban as favourites for this game, but there doesn't sound as though there was much between the two sides. Uddy are only three behind Lenzie, but they have played a game more.
Oban remain in third seven points behind Lenzie, whilst Bishopton are fourth, 11 off the pace.
Oban will look at their results against the two top teams and think of what could have been - they lost by three points to Lenzie and now 8 to Uddy. The positive for them is that both these games were away from home, so they have the opportunity to overturn the results at Glencruitten later in the season.
Bishopton have a chance to get back on track this weekend when they visit Uddy, but it’s a must win for them, and with Uddy not conceding many, even against the title contenders, this suggests a home win.
Lenzie welcome Cumbernauld in what's sure to be a fiery derby. Expect some fireworks, but that shouldn’t stop Lenzie adding a few more to their points for column.
This weekend Oban host Clydebank, who shot themselves in the foot on Saturday. Having led throughout the match, Lomond reminded their A82 el Classico derby opponents that a game's not done until it’s done, winning 20-17.
Clydebank stay in fifth, four behind Bish, but with two games in hand. Had they not lost out on Saturday, Clydebank would have been right in the title mix. It’s a big game for the two of them at Glencruitten, but we’ll go with home advantage.
Loch Lomond are also on the road this weekend, with a trip to Stranraer to take on Wigtownshire, another team who are starting to find a bit of form. Shire have won their last four, though three have been by less than four points (13-11 at Millbrae on Saturday). Shire are probably favourites, but they’re not scoring many so if Lomond can find their closing form from Saturday, it should be a close one - we’ll go with home advantage.
Following victory at Auchenkilns on Saturday, Strathaven are just the one point behind Clydebank now. It sounds like there were a few cards dished out in that game, so we’ll need to see if this has any impact on the upcoming games. Strathaven host Helensburgh this weekend, who are also on 19 points following their impressive 44-24 win against Paisley. They’ve got three wins apiece - Helensburgh are scoring more, but also conceding more, so this could have few tries in it - again we’ll go with home advantage.
The final West 2 game this weekend sees Paisley hosting Millbrae. Both lost last weekend, though Millbrae by only two points to Wigtownshire. Results have been hard to come by for both so far this season, so this is a chance to get some vital points. Millbraes struggles have been greatest on the road, so got to go with Paisley - but it could be tight.
It’s beginning to look like we have a battle at the top between three Clubs, a battle at the foot between three Clubs, and then a chunk in the middle who can probably all take points off of each other (six Clubs separated by 10 points).
We’ll need to get some clarity on promotion and relegation as this will have a big impact on those in the middle and what they’re playing for, but what with not knowing where the Super 6 second teams are going play, regional leagues of 10 for next season, and West Clubs in the drop zone of National 3, we’re probably going to have to wait for some clarity.
