Adult male season structure review update

As part of the review of the male adult competitive season, Scottish Rugby have announced they will launch a survey to gather views of players, coaches and referees from across the male adult game to help in creating a season and competitive structure which is fit for purpose.

Recognising the ongoing challenges of unfulfilled fixtures, player transition and retention, and societal changes there is a realisation of a need for change.

Many in the past have complained about a lack of consultation on key issues from Murrayfield, but with a widespread survey based on contacts in the SCRUMS database, to be followed up with further discussion with Clubs in March, this looks like a genuine attempt to gather a diverse range of views.

Gathering the data will only be the start, identifying possible solutions which will increase uptake and reduce drop out and then implementing an agreed structure are further challenges that may derail plans.

A survey will be sent out to those on those on the SCRUMS database within the next week, with results feeding into a wider consultation with clubs in March - all data being treated confidentially.
