West Region Results - 22 October 2016

East Kilbride maintained their unbeaten record in West 1 at the weekend, but in doing so recorded their second draw in a fortnight.  Carrick move back into 2nd place following their win against Helensburgh, with Newton Stewart down to third.  Newton Stewart however have a game in hand on the two above, though both East Kilbride and Carrick have more bonus points to their names.

Helensburgh are still at the foot of the table, but the Irvine investment induced revival didn't long as they lost out at home to Annan, where a win would have seen them overtake their visitors.  Bonus points at this end of the table may prove to be as valuable as they are in the promotion race.

The promotion contest in West 2 is starting to resemble a two horse race now, as those in third and below can't find a run of wins to bring them into the battle.  Cambuslang remain top following their 38-19 win over Millbrae, whilst Stewartry were more comfortable after a 78-14 win at Cumbernauld - however at half time, it was much closer at only 19-14.

With McLaren having withdrawn from the league, the battle at the foot of the table may be of little consequence (of course this depends on relegation in National 3), but Cumbernauld find themselves 7 points behind Lenzie, though they do have a game in hand.

In West 3, Strathendrick might only be four points ahead of Uddingston in second place, but Endrick have a game in hand as well as a huge points advantage (they have still only conceded 32 points and we're nearly half way through the season).  Until this weekend, Moffat were in fifth place, but they didn't stop them getting a 78-7 drubbing from Endrick, whilst Uddingston had a 29-19 win away at second bottom Wigtownshire.

Police Scotland find themselves bottom having lost to Strathaven, whilst Birkmyre won their local contest with Bishopton 25-20 to give them a five point gap over the Police.

Glasgow University Medics won the top of the table clash against Lanark 36-15 which gives them six wins from six and a 10 point gap over Lanark in 2nd.  Mull completed the double over Argyle & Bute with a 33-8 win, which keeps them in third place.  Whilst Shawlands won the derby against Hyndland.  Hyndland have still to register a win, but they are clear of last place, as yet again Clydesdale failed to fulfill their game - Clydesdale have played one competitive game season.  You have to think they'll be the fourth team to withdraw from the West Regional leagues this season.
