We only had three games in West 3 at the weekend as Police Scotland Glasgow again had trouble raising a team.
This is PSGs' third non-fulfillment this season, so it’s now getting to the worrying stage as one more probably means they’re out of the league. At this time, they’ve had a total of 12 points deducted, leaving them at the foot of the table having only played four games.
Our top two both had convincing wins with leaders WD putting 70 points past Shawlands whilst conceding only seven. Second place Glasgow Uni Medics won in Fort William against Lochaber 57-19.
WD lead the way with seven bonus point wins out of seven. The nine point gap to the Medics looks big, but the Medics do have a game in hand and they have yet to face one another, so plenty still to play for.
The Medics have a chance to close that gap this weekend, as WD have no game. The Medics host fourth place Birkmyre, who at only seven points behind, will fancy their chances. Interestingly, they have both conceded only 97 points in six games, so defences are pretty tight, but the flipside is that the Medics are averaging over 50 points a game, compared to Birkmyres 25. We’ll go with the Medics, but it could be close.
Cowal are in third place, but at 16 points behind WD, they're probably out of the running for the title. This week they travel to Mull for what should be a cracker. Both have lost a couple of games (including both going down to WD), but have also picked up a number of impressive results. We’re going with home advantage, but wouldn’t be surprised to see an away win.
In the third game of last weekend, Hyndland traveled to Moffat where neither Club had a league win to their name. It was Hyndland who were first on the scoreboard with a couple of early tries and this sounds as though it gave them a fair bit of confidence as they ran in several more before gaining a 36-19 win, stand-off Rowe picked up a hat-trick and had the privilege of getting the beers in.
Moffat will be disappointed with the results, but should look for the positives, as while they were down 31 nil at half-time, they came back to take the second half 19 points to five.
Hyndland host Lochaber this weekend in what will be tough game. Lochaber are currently in fifth with four wins to their name, but their three losses have come in their last four games. These defeats have however come against the Clubs currently filling the top three league spots. We’re going with an away win, but if Lochaber travel down even slightly under strength, then Hyndland will fancy their chances following last weekends confidence building performance.
The final game of the weekend is a Pollock Park derby, with Shawlands hosting near neighbours Police Scotland Glasgow. They have two wins a piece, with PSG having the better points difference. We’ll go with home advantage being the main difference between the two, but the result is probably less important to PSG than just getting the game played.
