West League Predictor Challenge - 13th October 2018
We got a good set of results in last weeks Predictor Challenge, with only Kilmarnocks upset against Greenocks and Bishoptons win in their derby game against Paisley going against us (we should just have stuck with home advantage on that one and we would have been fine).
This weeks fixture list throws up a number of interesting games in themselves, but there are several that can also have a big impact at the top and bottom of each league. There’s also a few games that look like stick on wins, but as Kilmarnock demonstrated last weekend, when it comes to competitive sport, there's no such thing.
This weeks predictions:
Cambuslang v Annan - Whilst they were in third place going into the game, Cambuslangs heavy loss at Glens last weekend perhaps shows that whilst they're a top half team, they're just a bit off the title challenge pace - Annan are still very much in that title race. Cambuslang have won 3 from six, whilst Annan are at four from five, their only defeat being against league leaders EK. Away win.
Cumnock v Kilmarnock – it might be down the bottom of the table with 10th taking on 12th, but this is an interesting one. Between them they’ve one league win this season - Cumnock have conceded 265 points in six games, but they ran EK close a few weeks ago, so they must have something about them. Kilmarnock have conceded 137 points in five games, and worryingly for them they've lost to Endrick, Irvine and Dalziel who are all bottom half teams - however, they drew with Greenock last week, so they've definitely got something to worry opposition teams. It's going to be close - if Kilmarnock can get the ball to their speed merchants, then they’ve a chance, but can they pull it off two weeks running. We're going with home advantage on this one.
East Kilbride v Garnock - another good one with 1st hosting 3rd. EK lost one, Garnock two - both have lost to Glens. Again don't see there being much in this one. It's really a must win for Garnock if they want to stay in the title race, but going with home advantage.
Greenock Wanderers v Dalziel - as with their game against Kimarnock last week, comfortable win for Greenock - well that worked out well didn't it. Home win, and come 5pm, Dalziel could be bottom of the table depending on the Cumnock v Kilmarnock result.
Irvine v Strathendrick - 7th v 9th with only four points between them. Irvine lost heavily away at Stewartry last week, but have had close contests against Garnock and Cambuslang. Endricks three loses have been to Garnock, Annan and Glens. Another close one, but Irvine seem to be stronger at home than away, so home win.
Stewartry v Allan Glens - Stewartry have won their last two home games, but with Glens only losing the one game to Greenock and even then they still managed to score 32 points. Can only see one result - away win.
West 2:
Clydebank v Millbrae - Millbraes win against Loch Lomond last week got them off the bottom of the table, but Clydebank a different proposition to Lomond. Clydebank have had a few close calls, including their game at Helensburgh last weekend. Home win, but they need to be on good form.
Lenzie v Uddingston - 2nd v 1st and up there with EK v Garnock as West Region game of the day. Both are scoring loads of points, with the Lenzie defence looking a bit meaner. There should be plenty of tries out wide, but it will probably come down to which pack keeps the graft going for 80 minutes. Close, but go wth home advantage.
Oban Lorne v Loch Lomond - Oban lost out in a close contest with Lenzie last weekend, while Lomond lost by a couple scores at Millbrae. Assuming the flooding in Oban has receded, home win.
Paisley v Cumbernauld - yet another close call, with 9th hosting 10th. Both have won only one game, but Cumbernauld have only played three games, having lost to Wigtownshire last week, and Oban in opening game of the campaign. Several of Paisleys defeats have been pretty tight, 7 points to Bishopton, 3 points to Uddy, 10 points to Oban. Probably only a score or so in this, so go with home advantage.
Strathaven v Bishopton - 4th v 6th, with only six points between them (but Strathaven have a game in hand). Similar sorts of points for and against. Not seen Bish yet this season, but Strathaven against Uddy last week were impressive playing with a high intensity. Another close one so go home win.
Wigtownshire v Helensburgh - this is 8th v 7th, with two wins a piece, points difference of -36 v -37. The only real difference between them looks to bonus points. Could go either way, so go with home advantage.
West 3:
Birkmyre v Cowal - The league positions suggest this should be an away win, but bet it isn't all one way traffic. This is important for Birkmyre to see if they have managed to get that result against Mull fully out of the system. Cowal averaging over 50 points a game, whilst not conceding many - away win.
Isle of Mull v Hyndland - with only 13 players against the league leaders, Mull looked good last week. Hyndland still looking for their first league win, but they're building a decent sized squad who are starting to put things together. If Mull get 15 players on the pitch this should be a home win, but don't get 15, then who knows which way this one will go.
Lochaber v Shawlands - A couple of heavy defeats for Lochaber whilst they've been on the road, but expect them to be a very different proposition when folk have to travel to Fort William. Shawlands have won two and lost two (both away games). Home win.
Waysiders/Drumpellier v Police Scotland - Glasgow - WD top with five wins from five, and five bonus points. Getting a consistent team on the pitch looks to be PSGs biggest issue (only 11 players last week). Home win, and it could be a big scoreline.
