HSBC World 7s - Dubai

The World 7s Series kicks-off again this weekend, and Scotland are drawn against Kenya, Fiji and France. Looks like an awkward group to get things kicked-off in Dubai.

Predictor Challenge Update - 1st December 2018

With a couple of "surprise" results at the weekend as well as draw that no-one predicted, it won't come as too much of  revelation that we had a drop in the average this week, but in fact it's the poorest result to date for the Predictor Challenge.

We had 44 entrants this week, submitting 430 predictions across the matches that were played.  Here's what the Odds looked like at kick-off time on Saturday.

The Issues Facing Grassroots Rugby

With another paper-based survey launched by Murrayfield (the third since the start of the year) about grassroots rugby, we thought we'd find out what you guys (the players and volunteers) think about where our game is.

We've had paper based questions about player payments, placement of Super6 Club teams, where the regional/national split should be and whether Clubs want to be playing national/regional rugby, but as far as we can tell, it's been over 24 months (the launch of Agenda 3), since regional Club folk sat down to discuss these issues face to face (slightly different for National Clubs as they meet more regularly in their forum meetings).

West League Update (West 3) - 28th November 2018

As with West 2, the action has been a bit sparse in West 3 over November due to the Autumn Tests.  We’ve only had seven competitive games played plus a couple of “development” matches.

The “development” games happen where one Club is short of players, but instead of calling off and facing a points deduction, a game is played (where a minimum number of players criteria is met – 10 we think), but we’re not sure what to make of these “development” games.

Yes, they can form an important part of keeping Clubs and players playing, but should they really be included as results in a competition – i.e. Glasgow Uni Medics game v PSG is shown as a 28 nil victory in Uni Medics favour.  WD are scheduled to face PSG in their last game of the season – what’s to happen if WD need a win for the Championship title and promotion, and by a margin wider than 28 points?

West League Update (West 2) - 28th November 2018

West 2 fixtures through the Autumn Test have been a bit sporadic, as have been our updates during this spell.  Through November, we’ve only had 11 games played with no significant change at the top of the table.

The table is still led by Lenzie who have 11 wins from 11 games, followed by Uddingston and Oban Lorne.  Both Uddy and Oban have a game in hand on Lenzie, but there’s a bit of a gap opening up between them.

West League Update (West 1) - 27th November 2018

Another weekend of fixtures and another leader at the top of West 1.

As of Saturday evening, it’s now Garnock setting the pace following their 58-8 victory over Annan.  There was no bonus point for East Kilbride in their 22-10 home win against Stewartry, so they missed their chance to go top.  Both are on 44 points, but Garnock have the superior points difference.

Predictor Challenge Update - 24th November 2018

The bulk of Novembers rugby press coverage has been about the Autumn Tests, but we still had a great deal of rugby taking place across West Region, and the same was true of the Predictor Challenge.

Despite the fewer number of games across November, we still had 100 entrants to the Challenge.  Between us, we submitted 1,864 predictions across the games that were played.  The overall success rate for November was 70%.

Before announcing the winner of the November Predictor Challenge, let's round up this weekends results.
