Predictor Challenge Update - 24th November 2018

The bulk of Novembers rugby press coverage has been about the Autumn Tests, but we still had a great deal of rugby taking place across West Region, and the same was true of the Predictor Challenge.

Despite the fewer number of games across November, we still had 100 entrants to the Challenge.  Between us, we submitted 1,864 predictions across the games that were played.  The overall success rate for November was 70%.

Before announcing the winner of the November Predictor Challenge, let's round up this weekends results.

We had a  couple of results from the weekend where the Predictor Odds got it wrong.

In West 1, our entrants were split right down the middle on the Dalziel v Kilmarnock game.  At half time it looked like we could be heading for a draw as the scoreline was 17-16 in Dalziels favour, however a barnstorming second half gave Kilmarnock the victory.  The final scoreline of 56-22 would suggest it was a one sided game, but it was anything but.

Entrants also had Wigtownshire as firm favourites for their game against Strathaven.  This was a close one, with only four points between them at the final whistle, but it was the visitors who took the victory, which moved them ahead of Shire in the league table.

Predicted win %
Draw Count
Dalziel 50.0% v 50.0% Kilmarnock 0.0% 44
East Kilbride 90.9% v 9.1% Stewartry 0.0% 44
Garnock 88.6% v 11.4% Annan 0.0% 44
Greenock Wanderers 93.2% v 4.5% Cambuslang 2.3% 44
Strathendrick p v p Allan Glens

Loch Lomond 58.1% v 39.5% Cumbernauld 2.3% 43
Wigtownshire 83.7% v 14.0% Strathaven 2.3% 43
Cowal 34.9% v 65.1% Glasgow Uni Medics 0.0% 43
Hyndland p v p Police Scotland - Glasgow

Isle of Mull 65.1% v 34.9% Lochaber 0.0% 43
Moffat 23.3% v 76.7% Birkmyre 0.0% 43

In the weekly results, we have six who scored 8 out of 9 (88.9%), with another twelve scoring 7 out of 9 (77.8%).

This weeks success rate is down on the last couple of weeks, but at 67% it matches the running total for the competition as a whole.

A number of our Leaderboard regulars scored an 8 out of 9, so improving their position at the top of the overall competition.

Keith Bradley moves back to the tap of the overall table, with an impressive 80% success rate - that's 88 correct predictions from 110 submitted.

Our random entry scored 5 from 9 this week, and is running at just under 56% overall.

November Predictor Round-up
Ped, a new entrant in November, was our first competitor to score 100% in any week.  Congrats on that achievement, but with only one entry, they don't go forward to the November leaderboard.

There's not much splitting the leaders (only one correct score between the top 3), with the winner of our November Challenge being Keith Bradley, who scored an impressive 32 out of 38 (84%).

Having finished second in the October Challenge, Keith is building an impressive set of results, which has helped place them at the top of the overall leaderboard, but they're not the only one whose crystal ball is working overtime, as we have 6 of our November top 10 who also featured in the October top 10.

Keith, you're due a WeegieRugby hat (fingers crossed we'll have them in the next week or so).

Our random entries scored 24 out of 38 (63%), whilst our own entries had a 71% success rate (so just three correct scores better than guesswork).

A copy of the overall scoreboard is available here.

Note:
1) To be eligible for a position on the leaderboard then we must have received a minimum of two sets of predictions from an entrant.

2) Starting from this week, we will not include development games within the Predictor Challenge scores.
