West League Update (West 2) - 13th November 2018

Based on the Predictor Odds we had a “shock” result in West 1, so it’s only fair that we had one in West 2 as well, but more of that in a bit.

Lenzie made it 10 wins from 10 on Saturday with a comfortable 52 nil win at home against Millbrae.  The result means they are now 8 points clear of Uddy in second who had the weekend off.

With no game for Uddingston, it was a chance for third place Oban Lorne to close to within touching distance of them.  Over 70% of entrants to the Predictor Challenge had Oban down for the win, but someone obviously forgot to tell Wigtownshire, as they won this one 31-14.  Looking at the league table now though, we probably shouldn't have been that surprised by the result as Shire are up to fourth and only five points behind Oban.  By the sounds of things, Shire were well worth their win against an Oban team who will be looking to learn from their “mishaps” and get themselves back into contention when they visit Cumbernauld this Saturday.

In the only other West 2 game at the weekend, Strathaven welcomed 11th placed Loch Lomond to Whiteshawgate for what many of us (nearly 90% of Predictor Challenge entrants) expected to be a comfortable win for the home team.  However, Lomond have been picking up points in recent weeks, and look to be coming to terms with the challenge ahead.  At 24 points to 20, it’s a loss for Lomond, but they do pick up another bonus point, and show again that they’re not far off the mid-table teams.

This result moves Strathaven up to 6th place, one point behind Clydebank.  Lomond are still in 11th place but now only two points behind Cumbernauld, though Cumbernauld do have four (yes 4) games in hand.

Both Cumbernauld and Lomond have difficult tasks this weekend; Cumbie hosting Oban and Lomond visiting Lenzie.  It’s hard to see either upsetting the league challengers, but with some big games coming up in the next few weeks, any bonus points gained will be important.

League restructuring could certainly see four teams relegated (and perhaps even five), so every point gained is valuable, not only for the three in most immediate danger at the foot, but probably also those from fourth down.  It’s going to be a hectic spell between now and Christmas that could see some significant changes to the league.
